A digital marketing position is often the easiest way to begin a career in the tech industry today. That’s mainly because, once you’re in the job, there will so many core skills that you can learn. So what are the most common digital marketing jobs for someone who’s just starting out?
Digital Marketer
Someone who works as a digital marketer is usually a digital marketing generalist. This position is usually found at a smaller startup or in a company where a marketing team is yet being developed. In any case, a digital marketer needs to be able to switch gears easily and make smart time management decisions on a daily basis. Depending on the company, this role may include a variety of tasks, from writing email newsletters to seeking business partnerships and more.
Content Marketer
While content marketing jobs often go to writers and editors, that’s hardly the end of it. Also called content strategists, these digital experts mostly concentrate on inbound marketing. Their main goal is not only to get the attention of new inbound users but, more importantly, to get their email addresses and other contact information. This is usually done with various types of content, such as blog posts, downloadable ebooks, multimedia content, and so on.
SEO Specialist
Before anything, what is SEO again? SEO, short for search engine optimization, is simply setting up your website so that it’s easier for people to find you when they look for you online or when they search on certain related terms. Thus, an SEO specialist should be able to conduct keyword research and develop an SEO strategy based on what they find out. SEO specialists use a variety of tools, such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics, etc.
Social Media Manager
The job of social media managers – or social media coordinators, as they are sometimes called – goes beyond checking Facebook. They design strategies aimed at growing social media following and engagement across a variety of platforms. Social media managers will, therefore, be working closely with ad managers, content creators and other digital pros whose jobs center around attracting new users and building trust in a brand. Closely related to this position is the community manager, whose main responsibility is to maintain order and keep discussions productive in online communities like Facebook groups and user forums.
Partnership Marketer
Partnership marketers, from their name, seek strategic partnerships and work on a whole range of tasks ,like presenting a product at a conference, attending meetings with industry bigwigs, etc. Partnership marketers can be one of two types: affiliate manager, who deals with people selling a company’s products and earning commissions; and influencer marketers, who team up with social media influencers for product promotions.
